Cillian Murphy's Son Looks Just Like His Dad in New Portrait Photo
He’s got the cheekbones, the stare, and now the spotlight. Aran Murphy, the 18-year-old son of Cillian Murphy, is turning heads with a new portrait that has fans seeing double.
A new portrait of Aran Murphy, the younger son of Cillian Murphy, has fans doing double takes — and for good reason. The 18-year-old is the image of his Oscar-winning father, and a recent Instagram post by photographer Rich Gilligan has everyone talking.

The portrait, shared on November 25, shows Aran in a simple, natural pose, dressed in a hoodie and looking off-camera. Richard kept the caption brief: “Aran Murphy. Dublin, 2025.”
But fans filled the comments with excitement over how much Aran looks like his dad. “Omg. Practically Cillian. Stunning shot,” one wrote. Another said, “Mini Cillian. 🥰 I wish him the best. ❤️” Someone else added, “So like his dad!!!” The likeness is clear — from the cheekbones to the serious expression, Aran is a younger version of the "Oppenheimer" star.
It’s a rare public moment for Aran, who’s been raised mostly out of the spotlight. But he’s not just known as Cillian’s lookalike — he’s also building a career of his own in acting. In October 2025, Aran’s talent agency announced his casting in the HBO and Sky drama, "War."
“We are thrilled to announce that Aran Murphy has joined the cast of WAR, the upcoming HBO and Sky co-production. Aran will star as Gabriel in the gripping new series led by Dominic West and Sienna Miller,” the post read.
This isn’t Aran’s first acting role. At just 11 years old, he starred as the title character in "Hamnet," a stage show about Shakespeare’s son that toured internationally — including stops in the UK, New York, Boston, and Hong Kong.
His dad told The Guardian in 2021 that Aran was “so chilled about” the experience. “He would come off stage and ask what the score was in the Liverpool game,” Cillian said. “And, again, you’re slightly jealous of that!”

In 2022, Aran also appeared in the film Lola alongside The Witcher's Emma Appleton. His biggest break so far came in 2024, when it was announced he had joined the cast of "Klara and the Sun," directed by Taika Waititi and starring Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams.
Though Aran is starting to make a name for himself, his family has worked hard to keep his and his older brother Malachy’s lives private.

Cillian and his wife, Yvonne McGuinness, raised their sons mostly in London before moving to Dublin in 2015. Cillian has said they wanted the boys to grow up with Irish roots and joked that their accents “adapted” quickly.
Cillian has also shared how proud he is of his sons, saying, “They’re really good boys. We have a laugh,” and he’s thanked them in multiple award speeches. Aran even made a rare appearance at the 2024 Golden Globes, sitting at the table with his parents.

For fans, the recent portrait is more than just a lookalike moment. It’s a glimpse of a young actor coming into his own, with talent that runs in the family and a future worth watching.
