Cillian Murphy’s Son Aran to Star in HBO Series ‘War’

The "Oppenheimer" star's lookalike teen son will join a star-studded cast in a legal thriller series set in London. He also has another upcoming project scheduled for release in 2026.

Cillian Murphy's son, Aran Murphy, has been cast in the upcoming HBO and Sky co-produced series "War." His talent agency shared the news on Instagram alongside a black-and-white portrait of the 17-year-old.

"We are thrilled to announce that Aran Murphy has joined the cast of WAR, the upcoming HBO and Sky co-production," the agency wrote. "Aran will star as Gabriel in the gripping new series led by Dominic West and Sienna Miller."

Fans couldn't help but point out his striking resemblance to his father. "I thought it was a young Cillian.😍," one person wrote. "I thought it was an old pic of Cillian 😂," another said.

"Omg....i lost it when i saw the look in his eyes....knew it was someone related to cillian before even reading the caption [sic]," a third echoed.

"Gosh at first I thought it's Cillian's youth photo, but then I realize it's his son😂 Aran does really looks like his father! Can't wait to see his work❤️I really hoping one day can see him and his dad working on the same project [sic]," someone else added.

"War" follows two notorious firms — Cathcarts and Taylor & Byrne — as they go head-to-head in the divorce case of the century. "Each side is certain they'll win. But as the case spirals and loyalties fracture, reputations are on the line, and everyone's playing to win," reads the Sky synopsis.

The case featured in season one is the first in an anthology of explosive legal battles. The show marks Aran's TV debut following his role in the 2022 sci-fi film, "Lola," where he played Leo. Last year, he was cast in Taika Waititi's upcoming feature "Klara and the Sun."

The sci-fi drama is an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's 2021 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name. It tells the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend designed to help prevent loneliness.

She is purchased by a mother, Chris, for her ailing daughter, Josie, who suffers from a mysterious disease. Josie absolutely adores her new companion, whose quest is to save her and those who love her from heartbreak.

And in the process, Klara learns the power of human love. In the film, Aran will play Josie's best friend and next-door neighbor, Rick. He will star alongside Amy Adams (Chris), Mia Tharia (Josie), and Jenna Ortega (Klara).

Aran is Cillian's youngest son with his wife, Yvonne McGuinness. The couple are also parents to their eldest son, Malachy. Aran began following in his father's footsteps long before he made his onscreen debut.

According to Deadline, between 2018 and 2019, he starred as the titular character in the play, "Hamnet," written and directed by Bush Moukarzel and Ben Kidd. The production opened in Dublin and was showcased in several cities, including London, New York, Boston, Brisbane, and Hong Kong.
