Kidman submitted the papers on Tuesday, September 30, in Nashville, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. The actress listed the date of separation as the date of filing and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason behind the divorce.
TMZ first reported the separation on Monday, September 30. According to sources who spoke to the outlet, Kidman and Urban had ended their relationship and began living apart at the start of summer.
Insiders also claimed the breakup was one-sided, as Kidman did not want to separate and had been fighting to save her marriage. "People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable," one source told PEOPLE. Additionally, by the time the news broke, Urban had reportedly already moved on with a new woman.

Regarding the divorce, TMZ also obtained a document titled Marital Dissolution Agreement, signed by Urban and Kidman, that suggests the couple had been working out the legal details of their separation throughout their time apart.
The agreement entails a parenting plan and a child support worksheet. Kidman and Urban have also committed to taking co-parenting classes together. The document was signed by two notaries, one for Urban dated August 29, 2025, and the other for Kidman, dated September 6, 2025.
