PGA Golfer Jake Knapp's Girlfriend, Makena White, Dies at 28
Makena White's cause of death has not been released, but her sudden death at the age of 28 has stunned her family, friends, and the golfing community at large.
Makena White, the girlfriend of professional golfer Jake Knapp, has tragically passed away at the age of 28. The cause of death was not released by the statements made by her friend and Knapp himself.
The news was shared on White's Instagram account on September 26, accompanied by a close-up photo of her. The post, written by a friend on White's behalf, read, "Hi everyone — this is Makena's friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week." The friend added that White is "so deeply missed" by her loved ones, including her family, friends, and dogs.
White's friend also remembered her as truly one-of-a-kind, with a rare ability to make those around her feel special. Her generous spirit was "always overflowing with love," and being close to her brought laughter, joy, and the occasional whirlwind of activity as friends tried to keep up with her busy travel life.
To honor White's memory, her friend encouraged donations to the Bruyere Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund. The message concluded with a heartfelt farewell saying, "We love you Mak. We'll miss you always, and we'll be looking for you in the sunset 💛."
White's family history with memory health has been publicly shared in the past. According to the Bruyere Brain Health & Memory Clinic, White's mother, Crystal, began visiting the clinic in 2018 and was later diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. White shared on Instagram that her mother passed away in April 2022.
In the hours following the announcement of White's death, Knapp broke his silence to honor her memory. In a statement exclusively shared with PEOPLE, he said, "Makena was such a thoughtful person whose selflessness toward others is something I will always appreciate. We shared so many unforgettable memories together and now that she's no longer with us, it's a tough reality to comprehend."
Knapp continued on to request for privacy for the sake of White's loved ones. "She had an incredible family, great friends, and her fun, outgoing energy will be missed by all of us. It's an understatement to say how hard all of this is to process for everyone who knew Mak, especially her family and friends, who deserve privacy and respect during this difficult time."
Knapp and White reportedly began dating in August 2023, according to a broadcast by NBC following his win at the Mexico Open in February 2024. After the victory, the PGA Tour shared a video on X showing White's reaction to Knapp's win.
