Sofia Vergara Reveals Reason for Missing the Emmys

The "Modern Family" alum revealed that she was just about to leave for the awards show when she was suddenly befallen with a medical emergency. She shared the unexpected update with fans on social media.

Sofía Vergara was an expected guest at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday evening, September 14. The actress was all ready to go until she was met with an emergency that required immediate attention.

Just hours before the ceremony began, she posted an Instagram carousel with a photo and clips showing exactly why she didn't make it. The first frame was a close-up image of Vergara with a visibly swollen eye.

"Didnt make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER 🤣😩sorry I had to cancel!" she wrote in the caption. "Craziest eye allergie right before getting in the car!🤣🤣." The second frame was a video of the "Griselda" star lying on a hospital bed.

When the woman behind the camera asked if she was okay, she replied with a comical sob. The final slide then showed her rinsing her eye in running water before gently patting it dry with a towel.

Just a day prior, Vergara had attended a boxing match between Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez and Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. There, she was joined by other A-listers, including Cuban actor Alberto Guerra and singer Marc Anthony.
