Travis Kelce Opened up About Marriage Just Weeks Before Engagement Reveal
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end broke the internet this week when he and his fiancée announced the next step in their relationship. He had previously hinted at marriage in an interview just weeks prior to sharing the good news.
Travis Kelce is feeling hopeful for the future. The NFL star expressed optimistic views about marriage during his interview for his GQ cover this month, which was published on Tuesday, August 12 — exactly two weeks before he revealed his engagement to Taylor Swift.
Kelce was reflecting on his parents' marriage and the point at which he realized there was a strain in their relationship. According to his estimation, it was on the former couple's 20th wedding anniversary.
The occasion was marked on a calendar on their refrigerator. "I remember seeing it and I was like, 'Oh, it's their anniversary. I wonder what they're going to do.' And it was kind of just another day almost. Another day of knocking out things for the kids," Kelce recalled.
Still, he added, "I'm sure my father probably did something." Kelce explained that his father, Ed Kelce, always remembered to celebrate his mother, Donna, on important occasions and still reminds his kids to do the same post-divorce.

"But at the same time, I never saw the romance of it all. A lot of friends I grew up with shared that. The handful of my friends whose parents are still together and still thriving—those are situations I would love to have," Kelce continued.
"Not that I think my parents dealt with it the wrong way or anything like that," he clarified. "It's more so, if we're gonna start this and do it, why not try and do it to last forever?"
Kelce announced his engagement to his partner of more than two years in a joint Instagram post with the singer. "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨," Swift wrote alongside photos from the moment Kelce popped the big question.
