Halle Berry Throws Shade at Ex-Husband David Justice After He Claimed She Wasn't 'Motherly'

Halle Berry marked her 59th birthday with sun-soaked vacation photos and a pointed caption that appeared to answer recent remarks from ex-husband David Justice questioning her domestic instincts during their marriage.

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, the Oscar-winning actress celebrated her birthday by sharing an Instagram carousel featuring tropical getaway snapshots with her boyfriend Van Hunt, a photo of a handwritten card seemingly from her two children, and a picture of her birthday cake.

"Phew...! cooking, cleaning and mothering, [sic]" Berry wrote in the caption — a line that many fans interpreted as a subtle response to comments Justice made in a recent interview.

The former Major League Baseball star, who was married to Berry from 1993 to 1997, discussed their relationship during an August 7, 2025 appearance on the "All the Smoke" podcast hosted by Matt Barnes.

"My knowledge and my understanding, my wisdom around relationships just wasn't vast," Justice said. "So, I'm looking at my mom — and I'm a Midwest guy. So, in my mind, I'm thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean, [be] traditional, you know?"

"Then I'm thinking, 'OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?' At that time, as a young guy — she don't cook, don't clean, don't really seem like motherly, and then we start having issues," he continued.

Justice, who has been married to his current wife Rebecca since 2001, added that the couple "probably could have made it if I knew about therapy" at the time. "We never had any major issues like that. It's just... because I was young and had only been in one real relationship before her."
