Jaime King Addresses Allegations of Not Paying Debt to Ex’s Divorce Lawyers

The "Hart of Dixie" alum finalized her divorce from her ex-husband in 2023; however, more legal proceedings have ensued since. This latest accusation, according to the actress, comes as a surprise.

Jaime King is being taken to court over an alleged $100,000 debt to her ex-husband Kyle Newman's former divorce lawyer. The former couple tied the knot in 2007, and filed for divorce in 2020. They finalized their split in 2023.

According to court documents recently obtained by US Weekly, the law firm Wasser, Cooperman & Mandles, claims that King owes them $98,441.16 in unpaid fees, plus $2,000 in interest.

The firm reportedly attached a 2024 court order from King and Newman's divorce, which required King to cover the legal fees her former spouse accumulated during the proceedings.

The actress was given 30 days to pay, after which the firm would have jurisdiction to sue her for the fees. "It is appropriate that [Jaime], the high earner in the marriage, pay those fees and she already agreed to do so," the judge, who approved the order, reportedly noted.

Wasser, Cooperman & Mandles is demanding that King appear in court with information about her assets and the funds in her bank accounts to assist the organization in collecting the debt. If she doesn't attend the scheduled hearing, she may be subject to arrest, per the order.

"This is the first time Jaime or her current legal team have been made aware of this filing," King's rep told US Weekly. "The continued media attention on the mounting financial and emotional costs of this unnecessarily aggressive divorce highlights the unrelenting pressure Jaime has faced.

"For years, she has endured fear tactics and legal intimidation while doing everything in her power to protect her children and rebuild a stable life for them. Jaime remains committed to the healing for her family, and moving forward with grace. We respectfully ask for privacy and compassion during this time," the rep said.
