Orlando Bloom Reacts to Joke Linking Him to a Former German Chancellor
A satirical media company published a headline joking about the actor moving on with a woman 23 years his senior. The quip comes amid his ex-fiancée's rumored romance with another political figure.
Orlando Bloom, 48, has a sense of humor and it shows. The "Lord of the Rings" actor recently responded to a faux-headline from the satirical media outlet, The Onion, about him moving on with former German chancellor Angela Merkel, 71.

The digital newspaper published the story on Instagram on Friday, August 1, featuring a photoshopped image of Bloom and Merkel enjoying a candlelit dinner.
"Just weeks after announcing his split with fiancée Katy Perry, English actor Orlando Bloom was photographed Friday dining with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel," The Onion wrote in the caption.
"'Angela kept Orlando laughing all night—he couldn't keep his eyes off her!' said an insider source who spotted the pair sipping wine, slurping oysters, and splitting a decadent piece of chocolate layer cake at a Michelin-starred restaurant," the outlet added.
Bloom responded in the comments section with a string of applause emojis: "👏👏👏." His lighthearted reply comes just as his ex, Katy Perry, sparked dating rumors with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The pair were seen having dinner together in Montreal last Monday, July 28. Days later, Trudeau was spotted at the singer's "Lifetimes" tour show at the city's Bell Centre.
