Erik Menendez Hospitalized with Kidney Stones Ahead of Parole Board Hearing
The convicted criminal's recent hospitalization occurred before his attorney revealed that he had been diagnosed with a "serious medical condition." His lawyer is now seeking his release ahead of the parole hearing.
According to TMZ, Erik Menendez is currently treated for kidney stones at a nearby hospital, and he possibly won't be returning to the prison cells.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reportedly confirmed that Erik was taken to an outside medical facility on July 18, 2025. He is currently in a fair condition.
It comes after the outlet initially reported that the convicted felon had been diagnosed with a "serious medical condition." His lawyer, Mark Geragos, revealed that the situation is so severe that it warrants California Governor Gavin Newsom to grant his release immediately.
He and his brother, Lyle Menendez, who are jailed for killing their parents, are scheduled for a parole board hearing in August 2025. However, due to his current health issues, the process could be fast-tracked.
Per reports, Newsom is keen on granting both siblings clemency. As of this writing, the politician is reviewing Erik's change in health to determine if a "prison furlough" is appropriate.
