Scooter Braun Takes a Dig at Kanye West in Recent Podcast Interview
Music mogul Scooter Braun didn't hold back in a recent interview, issuing a rare and personal rebuke of Kanye West while reflecting on the painful distance from someone he once called a friend.
Scooter Braun has publicly distanced himself from Kanye West, criticizing the rapper's widely condemned antisemitic remarks in a candid podcast appearance.
"I don't know him anymore," Braun said during Thursday's episode of "Question Everything" with Danielle Robay.
"I think the person that I knew wasn't someone who says those things," he continued. "I think sometimes the hardest thing to do about someone you care about is mourn them while they are still here."
The 44-year-old music executive, who once managed West, made it clear that he no longer maintains a relationship with him.
"For me, the person that I knew is not the person that I’m seeing, so I don't have a relationship [with him] anymore," Braun clarified.
When asked if West, now 48, could still be "reached," Braun responded simply, "I don't know."
Ultimately, Braun said that his focus is to raise his three children and make sure they're prepared for the world. The music executive shares Jagger, Levi, and Hart, with his ex-wife Yael Cohen.
Braun also expressed his desire to stand firmly in his identity while promoting unity and compassion, rather than align with rhetoric that fuels division.
"I'd rather stand proudly with who I am and who my people are and be gracious and kind to all people than be a part of that," he shared.
Despite the strong words, Braun emphasized that his stance doesn't come from a place of anger. "I don't have any ill will," he said of the "Mercy" singer. Rather, Braun wishes to be someone who is focused on positivity and being proud of who they are.
West has been under fire recently for posting a stream of antisemitic abuse. He also sold shirts with a swastika on his brand Yeezy, and allegedly described himself as Hitler to a Jewish employee.
Ultimately, West's talent agency removed him from their roster. One of his former employees also filed a lawsuit against him for wrongful termination and gender and religious discrimination.
