Mrs. Trump, who has emphasized child well-being throughout her public life, began the visit by sitting with children as they created festive decorations. At one table, she decorated a stone with a red heart for the hospital's rooftop Bunny Mellon Healing Garden, which she had originally dedicated during her husband's first administration.

The First Lady distributed gift bags to each child, filled with blankets and teddy bears wearing shirts emblazoned with "Be Best," a reference to her initiative focused on children's social and emotional health.

Later, she escorted the group out to the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden, where children placed miniature American flags and red, white, and blue pinwheels in the soil. The garden had been decorated ahead of Friday's Independence Day celebrations.
Mrs. Trump, accompanied by White House Chief Groundskeeper Dale Haney, also took time to inspect a newly planted yellow rose bush, a gift from the White House.
She concluded her visit with a private stop in the hospital's heart and kidney unit, meeting one-on-one with a 3-year-old patient.
