Victoria Beckham gave fans a health update on husband David Beckham, sharing a photo of the former footballer recovering in the hospital following surgery.

Victoria Beckham recently posted a photo to her Instagram Story showing David Beckham lying in a hospital bed with his arm in a sling. The image appeared to be taken shortly after a medical procedure, though no official statement about the surgery was initially provided by the Beckhams.

A source told MailOnline that the 50-year-old underwent an operation to repair damage caused by an old sports injury. David originally broke his wrist in May 2003 during a friendly match between England and South Africa in Durban.

According to the source, lingering pain and discomfort over the years prompted a scan, which revealed that a screw, intended to dissolve, was still embedded in his wrist. After the pain reportedly became "unbearable," the former England captain opted for surgery to have it removed.

Beckham recovered swiftly and was well enough to attend Inter Miami’s Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, sporting an arm brace.

"It's fine. It's an old injury that needed surgery, but it's all good. All good," he said before kickoff when asked about his hospitalization.
