Wendy Williams' ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, has filed a $250 million federal lawsuit against her court-appointed guardian and dozens of others. Yet, Williams says she has nothing to do with the case.

Kevin Hunter, the former husband of talk show host Wendy Williams, filed a sweeping federal lawsuit on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, alleging that Williams' constitutional rights have been violated by her guardianship arrangement.

The complaint names 48 defendants, including her guardian Sabrina Morrissey, Judge Lisa Sokoloff, Wells Fargo, her assisted living facility, and multiple attorneys. Hunter is seeking a jury trial.

Filed in New York, the lawsuit accuses those involved in the guardianship of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. "Guardianship is a civil death," the complaint states. "In New York, more than 28,000 adults, which includes [Williams], are being abused, neglected, and defrauded under the care of court-appointed guardians."

Hunter, listed as a co-plaintiff, is seeking to be appointed as Williams' "next friend," a legal status that would allow him to act on her behalf. He is requesting a new guardian, a forensic accounting of Williams' finances, her release from "involuntary confinement" and $250 million in damages for financial loss, reputational harm, emotional distress, and legal costs.

Despite Hunter's claims that the lawsuit is being filed on her behalf, Williams told TMZ she has no involvement in the legal action. "She feels it's a money grab," the outlet reported, adding that Williams denied participating in the filing when contacted directly by phone.

The lawsuit does not explicitly seek to end the guardianship but alleges misconduct by those currently managing it. It also claims that Williams' former financial adviser Lori Schiller and ex-manager Bernie Young misused her funds without her knowledge.

LaShawn Thomas, the attorney representing the suit, said Williams is "not legally aware of all of the evidence" behind the claims, but added, "I plan on laying out sufficient evidence to support our claims and ensure that her rights are vindicated and she is made whole financially."

Williams and Hunter divorced in 2020 after 21 years of marriage. Williams, 59, has been under a legal guardianship since 2022 following concerns about her physical and mental health.

In 2024, her care team confirmed she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a degenerative brain condition that affects speech, comprehension, and behavior.
