On June 11, 2025, Nitzer Ebb shared a somber post honoring their late frontman and co-founder of their band Douglas McCarthy.

"It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform that Douglas McCarthy passed away this morning of June 11th, 2025," the statement began.

"We ask everyone to please be respectful of Douglas, his wife, and family in this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding and will share more information soon," it concluded.

Alongside the message was a black-and-white shadowy photograph of McCarthy captioned with his date of birth, September 1, 1966, and the day he took his last breath.

Nitzer Ebb didn't disclose McCarthy's cause of death; however, their announcement comes after the late singer revealed he had been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis in March 2024 after years of alcohol abuse.

"For over two years I have not been drinking, but recovery is a long process," he was quoted as saying at the time. McCarthy had been touring in Europe with his band, but the diagnosis forced him to step back.

The 58-year-old started Nitzer Ebb in 1982 with his friends and the group enjoyed success until their split in 1995. They reunited again in 2007, and released their final project, "Industrial Complex," in 2010. The band continued touring in the years that followed.
