Ivanka Trump Refers to Father-in-Law as 'Dad,' but Calls Donald Trump 'Father' Online
Ivanka Trump sparked conversation on social media after calling her father-in-law, Charles Kushner, "dad," while continuing to refer to her biological father, President Donald Trump, as "father" in public statements.
Ivanka Trump praised Charles Kushner in a post on X following news that he would serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to France.
"Congratulations, dad. I am proud of you," she wrote. The term of endearment drew a flurry of responses online, with several users pointing out the distinction.
"Jared's dad, your dad is Donald, [sic]" one person commented. Another asked, "Who the [expletive] calls their father-in-law dad?" while a third added, "'Dad.' Yikes girl."
The post is a stark contrast to how she references Donald Trump. In multiple public posts, Ivanka has consistently used the more formal term "father" when referring to the president.
Following his second inauguration, she wrote, "Congratulations to my father on his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! I'm proud of his determination, resilience and commitment to our country. This moment is both historic and humbling."
In another post reflecting on Trump's first term, she shared: "As the Inauguration approaches, I find myself filled with gratitude as I reflect on special moments with my father and family from eight years ago, when we first stepped off Air Force One upon arriving in Washington, D.C."
She also commemorated another moment with a caption that read: "Celebrating an extraordinary milestone with my father [Donald Trump,] [Melania Trump,] [Tiffany Trump,] [JD Vance] as he rang the NYSE opening bell in front of his TIME Person of the Year cover."
Ivanka has also notably distanced herself from politics during her father's current term. While she previously served as a senior advisor to the president, she has since stated her intention to focus on her family and private life rather than return to public service.
