Liev Schreiber on His Daughter Kai Coming Out as Trans
The "Ray Donovan" star opened up about his daughter's journey, and the efforts they're both making to support the trans community—especially those without resources.
Liev Schreiber spoke with Variety on Thursday, May 8, about his 16-year-old daughter Kai Schreiber, whom he shares with actress Naomi Watts.

The actor revealed that Kai never officially came out to him or Naomi as trans. However, he added that "the most profound moment" was when Kai asked them to change her pronouns.
"To be honest with you, it didn't feel like that big of a deal to me only because Kai had been so feminine for so long," he shared. "Kai was always who Kai is."

The teen made her runway debut on March 9, 2025, for Valentino during Paris Fashion Week. Both her parents were overwhelmed with pride, sharing photos and videos of the young model.
"That's my @maisonvalentino baby! I'm squealing with pride. Ilysm @kaischreiberrr ❤️," Naomi captioned her post on Instagram. "Ladies and gentlemen the one, the only, the indomitable @kaischreiberr!" Liev also wrote.
Liev recognized that while his daughter has the courage and privilege to live her truth, much of the transgender youth doesn't have the same support or tangible resources to do the same.
"These are people who are being rejected. These are people who are experiencing the harshest version of humanity that we can offer, and some of them are not surviving it. We got to bear that in mind when we go out there and glam ourselves up and get ready to be seen, you know?" he reflected.

That's why he and his wife, Taylor Neisen, are stepping up. The couple, alongside Kai, will attend the A Place at the Table Gala at the Ali Forney Center, which provides housing and support for LGBTQ youth.
The event, which takes place this Friday evening in New York City, will raise funds for the center's mission.
