RHOC Alum Lydia McLaughlin Mourns Loss of Brother Geoffrey Stirling
The former "Real Housewives of Orange County" star's brother was fatally shot by police during a traffic stop in Southern Los Angeles, California.
Lydia McLaughlin is mourning the loss of her brother, Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, after police shot him during a confrontation on the Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach.
According to TMZ and an official police statement, Geoffrey had been riding a motorcycle along the highway, when a Newport Beach police officer pulled him over for a traffic violation on Thursday night, April 17.
Geoffrey allegedly became uncooperative and assaulted the officer. An altercation ensued, during which Geoffrey managed to remove the policeman's department-issued taser from his belt and attempted to use it on him several times.
It was at that point that the officer opened fire, wounding Geoffrey. More officers and personnel from the city's fire department arrived on scene afterward, and provided the 45-year-old with medical aid.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. An investigation into the circumstances of the incident has been launched, and remains ongoing.
Geoffrey was the son of NTV CEO Scott Stirling, who survives him alongside his sister and brother, Jesse Stirling. His mother, Judy Stirling, died of breast cancer in October of last year.
Lydia released a statement via TMZ, sharing how devastated her family is over her brother's passing. While expressing gratitude for the support from friends, family and community, she also asked for privacy as they grieve.
