Katy Perry Said Going to Space Was No Coincidence: 'There Is Something Bigger than Me Guiding My Journey'
The star recently skyrocketed to space after being invited on an experience of a lifetime. Ahead of the trip, she explained how the stars aligned for her to join the voyage.
Katy Perry was part of Blue Origin's all-female crew that completed the NS-31 mission on April 14, 2025. According to the aerospace company, the trip was around 11 minutes and those onboard traveled over 60 miles above Earth, surpassing the Kármán line.
Perry was joined by Jeff Bezos' journalist fiancee, Lauren Sanchez, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, journalist Gayle King, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.
The day before the trip, the singer took to Instagram and shared in a video that her being invited to the excursion wasn't something that happened by chance. Perry, who captioned the post, "Today's reminder that there is something bigger than me guiding my journey, said:
"I think if you know me, you know that I'm always looking for little confirmations from the heavens from my guides, from my angels, from my higher self. You know when I ask for it, and I'm open to it, it's pretty loud."
The songwriter explained that when she was invited to go to space, she looked up the capsule. She discovered that the vessel had the shape of a feather on the outline, adding:
"And when I saw that, I felt like it was a total confirmation because my mom has always called me, Feather."
During space training, the company showed the crew the capsule and ran simulations, testing the noise and what to expect. They then revealed the capsule's name: Tortoise.
"A wave — just the most energetic wave — just shot through my body, and I was like, 'What? This capsule's name is Tortoise?'" recalled the 40-year-old. This was of utmost significance for her as her mother calls her with two nicknames: Feather and Tortoise.
The California native found this discovery fascinating, noting that it was fate that she would be traveling in a capsule with her symbol feather called Tortoise. She added:
"There are no coincidences and I'm just so grateful for these confirmations."
Upon landing back on Earth and exiting the capsule, Perry reportedly raised her hand to the sky and kissed the ground. According to her, the experience showed her how much love she has inside of her.
