She says she still worries about him “all day,” yet the two rarely talk directly. Here’s how the reality star keeps things smooth for the sake of their four children, and why she won’t stop rooting for him.
Kim Kardashian is opening up about the aftermath of her marriage to Kanye West in the new biography “Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future.”
Released on October 27, the book is based on interviews conducted by journalist Jonathan Van Meter with Kardashian and her inner circle, which spanned nearly a decade.
One of the topics the biography touches on is Kardashian’s relationship with West, whom she was married to from 2014 to 2022 and shares four children with.
Kardashian has revealed in the past that she filed for divorce from West for her well-being. “I had to save myself in order to be a better mom for everyone,” she said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast last year. “When you have kids, it’s definitely harder to leave than it is to stay.”

Though the couple have parted ways, Kardashian says she will always care about West, who publicly revealed in 2018 that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. “Oh, I worry about [Kanye] all day,” she told Van Meter. “All the time. That’s the father of my kids, I’ll never not worry about him.”
Life after their divorce has seen the former couple coparenting their children amicably. Kardashian shared that they “manage to coparent without too much conflict,” adding, “It’s been pretty smooth for a while. I guess because we don’t talk that much. But when we see each other, we give each other a hug.”

These days, Kim Kardashian says she communicates with West through his wife, Bianca Censori, or his manager. She also makes it a point to be welcoming to him and his family. “I tell them all, open-door policy,” she said. “That’s their family. So I encourage the relationship with their dad so much.”
Part of ensuring her kids maintain a healthy relationship with their father is giving him time with them. Kardashian says she invites him to spend time with their kids at home, even offering to leave so they can have dinner together. And she always makes sure her kids still have great respect for him. “I still make up stories and protect [the kids] because I want them to think their dad is the greatest,” she said.
She also noted that West’s struggles were never a concern when he was around the children, who she says have a calming effect on him.
As for shielding the kids from news they shouldn’t be a part of, Kardashian said there are protocols in place in her household. When she texts “lockdown,” everyone knows the TV is limited to movies, and in the car, the radio is replaced by music played from a phone.
Despite everything, Kardashian says she continues to root for West. “He always seems to pick himself up,” she said. “I don’t think it’s going to get better. I pray it does. For my kids.”
