Colin Jost Jokes About Wife Scarlett Johansson Box Office Record Being Surpassed by Zoe Saldaña
Colin Jost had a hilarious reaction to his wife, Scarlett Johansson, being bumped to the number two spot on the all-time box office list.
Colin Jost used his "Weekend Update" segment on "Saturday Night Live" to address the recent news that his wife, Scarlett Johansson, had been surpassed by Zoe Saldaña as the highest-grossing actor of all time.
But instead of playfully defending his wife, he turned the joke squarely on himself in a hilarious, self-deprecating moment.

After announcing the news, he offered a funny solution. "Okay, well let’s see what happens if you include the box office from Scarlett’s husband’s movies," he proposed, as a graphic on screen prepared to adjust her total.
When the bar graph showing Johansson's massive $15.4 billion earnings actually dropped, Jost broke into laughter along with the audience, asking through his giggles, "It went down?"

The Box Office Shake-Up
Jost's perfectly delivered joke was prompted by a major shift in Hollywood's rankings. The success of the Avatar trilogy, including the recent "Avatar: Fire and Ash," which brought in over $1.23 billion, propelled Saldaña's lifetime box office total to a staggering $16.8 billion.

This achievement officially moved Johansson, who previously held the record at $16.4 billion, into the number two spot. The rest of the top five is rounded out by their Marvel co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Pratt.

The Reign of the Franchise Queens
The friendly competition between the two actresses highlights their incredible careers, both of which have been anchored by roles in some of the biggest franchises in movie history.
Saldaña's record is powered by her starring roles in the "Avatar" films, "Star Trek," and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Similarly, Johansson's previous reign was largely due to her iconic, decade-spanning role as Black Widow in the Marvel films.

While Zoe Saldaña currently wears the box office crown, Jost's joke was a perfect, lighthearted reminder of the scale of his wife's success—and a charmingly humble admission of his own. It was a classic "SNL" moment where the comedian showed he's always happy to be the punchline.
