On September 24, 2025, Glen Powell appeared on the "Therapuss with Jake Shane" podcast to talk about his new show "Chad Powers." When asked what motivates this character, the actor decided to tell an anecdote, where he detailed a run-in with a star who had a "toxic face."

Powell began by explaining that he went to a big Hollywood party, and somebody, whom he decided not to name, arrived. This person was just getting "canceled."

The actor had loved this unnamed star before because he was in some of his favorite movies. "He came up and said, 'Nice to meet you,' and I said, 'Oh dude, big fan.' Then a photographer said, 'Hey, can we take a picture of the two of you guys?'" he recalled, adding that that's where he drew the line.

He made clear he was a fan of this unknown celebrity's projects, but not of the choices he had made that led to his cancellation.

"So I was just kind of being nice, but when they wanted to take a picture, I quickly realized, 'I don't know if this is a good idea,'" Powell clarified. "He clearly clocked that I was thinking this probably wasn't a good idea. I realized, 'This guy's face is toxic.'"

Powell went on to compare this person to his character, whose real name is Russ Holiday, a disgraced former college football star. Holiday changes his name to Chad Powers and his appearance, hoping to rebuild his career.

Except, Powell made it clear that his character had just made a mistake. "Some other people who get canceled should lie where they're shot," the actor stated.

Powell's new show premieres on September 30 on Hulu.
