Michelle Yeoh Shares the Secret to a Strong Marriage with Husband Jean Todt – After 6,992 Days Engaged
Michelle Yeoh is offering a glimpse into the love and commitment that have carried her through more than two decades with husband Jean Todt, revealing how small, daily choices have made their marriage thrive.
Just weeks after marking her second wedding anniversary, Michelle Yeoh reflected on her relationship with Jean Todt, sharing the values that keep their partnership strong.
The Academy Award-winning actress opened up in an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE while discussing her latest project, voicing the lead role in the upcoming English-language version of the Chinese hit "Ne Zha 2."
Yeoh explained that she and Todt, the former Ferrari chief executive, have spent more than two decades together. "We've been together for 21 years, and we've been married for two," she said. The couple first crossed paths in June 2004 while Yeoh was in Shanghai for a Ferrari publicity event. Their connection was immediate, and within a month, Todt proposed.
According to Yeoh, one of the biggest lessons they've learned is to treat each day as special. "What we say is, 'Every day should be a celebration.' Why do we wait for a special day?" she noted.
The "Wicked" and "Everything Everywhere All at Once" star also credited Todt with giving her the freedom to fully embrace her career, despite the frequent travel it demands.
"I am so blessed because he’s so supportive of what I do. I love my work. This is my passion. He never turns around and says you spend a lot of time away from me, which I have sometimes, but he's very understanding," she shared. Yeoh even admitted that their anniversary this year fell on a work day, adding, "On the day of our anniversary, I actually was flying."
Although her work schedule often keeps her on the move, Yeoh made sure to celebrate her 63rd birthday just days before their anniversary with Todt by her side in France. She later posted photos from the occasion on Instagram, including one where the couple appeared visibly affectionate, highlighting the closeness that has defined their relationship for two decades.
Their love story reached a new milestone in July 2023, when they officially tied the knot in Geneva after nearly 19 years of engagement.
Guests received a wedding program that detailed their journey from the moment they met, reading in part, "We met in Shanghai on 4th June 2004. On 26th July 2004, J.T proposed to marry M.Y. and she said YES. Today after 6992 days on 27th July 2023 in Geneva, surrounded by loving family and friends, we are so happy to celebrate this special moment together!"
Now, more than a year into marriage, Yeoh’s reflections suggest that the bond she and Todt share is rooted not in grand gestures but in consistent support, deep respect, and a shared belief in celebrating life every day.
