Melanie Griffith Rings in 68th Birthday with Tippi Hedren and Her Daughters

The "Working Girl" star marked the milestone during an intimate gathering over the weekend, in the company of those closest to her. The sighting comes on the heels of her eldest daughter's split from her fiancé.

Melanie Griffith celebrated yet another trip around the sun, marking her 68th birthday on Saturday, August 9, with her loved ones at her side. The actress was joined by her mother, Hollywood icon Tippi Hedren, and her daughters, Dakota Johnson and Stella Banderas.

In photos obtained by the Daily Mail, Griffith can be seen smiling as guests slowly filed out of her Hollywood home following the private celebration. For the occasion, the "Lolita" star donned a loose, flowing black slip dress with thin spaghetti straps.

She also wore black opera gloves, adorned with white lace, and her short blonde locks were styled in a bob with a side part. In other images circulating online, Griffith can be seen posing alongside Hedren, Johnson, and Banderas in a happy family photo.

All four — in a rare sight of three generations together — smiled at the camera in front of a table decorated with a birthday cake and beverages. Alongside extended family, the ladies were also joined by Johnson's "Materialists" co-star Pedro Pascal.

Other celebrity guests included jewelry designer Loree Rodkin and celebrity florist Jeff Leatham. The party comes just over two months after Johnson reportedly split from her partner, Chris Martin, following eight years of an on-and-off relationship.

Sources who spoke to the Daily Mail confirmed their separation and claimed that Johnson's mother thinks the breakup is a "huge mistake."

"Melanie is desperately working behind the scenes to save Dakota's strained relationship with Chris," the source said. "She's convinced that they are meant to be together and isn't giving up on them. She thinks her daughter is making a huge mistake and needs to meet Chris halfway."

"Melanie has always felt a kinship with Chris, he's like a son to her." the source added. Griffith, however, doesn't want to come across as a "meddlesome mother," per the insider. "She said she's coming from a place of authentic love for her daughter, rather than control," the insider said.
