James Carter Cathcart, also known as Jimmy Zoppi, who voiced Pokémon, has sadly passed away at 71. His wife, Martha Jacobi, announced the devastating news on The James Carter Cathcart Fan Club's Facebook page on July 10, 2025.
She introduced herself before sharing, "JCC died peacefully, very early in the morning, on Tuesday 7/8/25, at Calvary Hospital, in the Bronx."
Jacobi revealed that the funeral will be in early August 2025 in New York. The family is still busy with memorial designations at this time as they await communication from one of the charities Cathcart was a part of. She urged those who wanted to offer offline condolences to send them to her home address.
"Thanks to all of Jimmy's fans over the years! Giving you joy was why he worked so hard on his craft. Please know how much he appreciated you!" said Jacobi. Per reports, Cathcart passed away due to throat cancer.
He was a respected voice actor and script adaptor known for several Pokémon projects. His characters include Professor Oak, Gary Oak, Team Rocket member James, and his Pokémon sidekick Meowth. Cathcart retired in 2023 following his cancer diagnosis.
