Mixed Reactions as Kelly Clarkson Postpones Las Vegas Residency Opening Night
The "Catch My Breath" singer shared the news approximately an hour and a half before her opening night show began. She had announced her residency earlier this year.
Kelly Clarkson shared a message informing fans that her much-awaited opening show for her "Studio Sessions" residency in Las Vegas had been postponed—reportedly just 90 minutes before she was set to hit the stage.
"We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans," Clarkson began in a statement via Instagram on Friday, July 4.
"I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow's opening at Caesars. The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice," she revealed.
"I want the shows to be perfect for y'all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve," she continued.
Clarkson promised that the show is "truly incredible" and emphasized that she wanted her musicians and singers "to start out strong." She also expressed her excitement for the upcoming showcase of what they've been working on.
Some expressed support for the singer prioritizing her well-being and readiness to perform. "Take care, Kelly. Health is first! ❤️," one fan wrote. "When Adele cancelled, we still had an amazing time. Respect for taking care of yourself," another said.
Others, however, expressed frustration over the short notice. "That suuuuucks for those that took a flight and got a hotel just to see you! And who knows if they can make a rescheduled date. Attending Vegas residencies takes planning for many," one commenter noted.
"I'm a huge fan and flew here from Boston spending thousands on tickets and hotels to see your show tomorrow for my 40th birthday. I really want you to be healthy but cancelling this late has such a huge financial impact on your loyal fans 😭," another lamented.
Clarkson's residency, which was announced in February, had 18 scheduled shows from July 4 through November 15. At this time, it's unclear whether fans who had planned to attend opening night will be reimbursed for their tickets or if there will be a reschedule date.
