‘Glee’ Star Cory Monteith’s Parents Die Within a Month of Each Other

The young actor tragically died of a drug overdose over ten years ago. He was close with his mother and she once opened up about the immense toll his death took on her.

Cory Monteith's mother, Ann Marie McGregor, has died at the age of 74. An obituary by Prairie View Cremation and Memorial Services confirmed the Canadian native's passing, which was described as "peaceful."

She died on July 18, 2025, and is survived by her son, Shaun Monteith. She also leaves behind her siblings, including brothers Pat, Mike, Pete, and sister Mary, all of whom have married and have children.

"Ann enjoyed her time gardening, along with her artistic pursuits on her acreage in Shirley, BC, together with Cornelius, Harley and her love birds," the obituary read, describing McGregor as a "person of strong character."

Her cause of death wasn't disclosed, but it was revealed that she was under the care of medical professionals during her last days.

"We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and palliative care staff at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon for the impeccable care Ann received while there," the obituary stated.

McGregor raised her sons as a single mother and had a particularly close relationship with Monteith. "I still can't pick up the pieces," she told PEOPLE in 2018, reflecting on the loss of her younger son, who died at just 31 years old.

Monteith had died five years earlier, in 2013, after overdosing on heroin. "My world totally stopped. And I'm a different person than I was before," she said at the time.

Her death comes just over a month after Monteith's estranged father, Joe Monteith, also passed away. The Canadian retired veteran died on May 12, 2025, according to an obituary by Oromocto Funeral Home and Crematorium.

He was survived by his wife, Yvette Cormier-Monteith; his brother, Philip Monteith; his son Shaun; his stepsons, Dale and Paul McCoy; his grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
