In the video, Cowell wears a grey suit paired with notably baggy trousers, which some viewers felt distracted from the significance of the scene. Spraggan, in contrast, is seen in an all-white outfit: a vest, jacket, and matching pants.

"All of this and Simon can't find anyone to properly alter his trousers. The length is way too long," one commenter posted. Another questioned, "Does Simon Cowell have something wrong with his legs?? 😮" while a third wrote, "Could he not afford a seamstress to take his pants up?"

Despite the online criticism, the moment marked a personal milestone for both Cowell and Spraggan. Though the two did not meet during Spraggan's original run on "The X Factor" in 2012—she withdrew from the competition after being assaulted by a hotel porter—Cowell reached out to her in 2023 after she shared her story in a memoir.

Their bond deepened quickly, leading to Spraggan signing with Cowell's Syco publishing label. During a holiday in Barbados, she asked Cowell—whom she now considers a father figure—to walk her down the aisle, as she remains estranged from her biological father.

"I was very honoured to be asked to walk Lucy down the aisle," Cowell told HELLO! during an exclusive interview. "I considered it a very big deal. As soon as she asked me, I said yes. On the day I was actually quite nervous because I've never been asked before. And then very proud and happy and emotional."
