‘My 600-Lb Life’ Star Latonya Pottain Passes Away at 40 — Details
The late reality star, who appeared on season 11 of the TLC series, tragically passed away over the weekend in Louisiana. Reports reveal she died of natural causes.
Latonya Pottain took her last breath at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
The Natchitoches Parish Coroner's Office revealed to TMZ that a preliminary autopsy found that she died of congestive heart failure; however, a full report is still pending.
TMZ also spoke with Pottain's brother, who shared that family members had visited the 40-year-old that morning at her home, and they noticed she was having trouble breathing and generally didn't look well.
They later received a call from a nurse who informed them Pottain had called an ambulance as she was going into cardiac arrest, which later led to her death.
Her passing comes just months after she started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for urgent care and other essential medical expenses. In the description she detailed what had become "the most challenging time" of her life.
Pottain stated that she weighed 705 pounds and had been bedridden since June 2024 due to severe health issues. She was featured on "My 600-lb Life" in 2022, starting at 531 pounds.
She said she "worked hard" to get down to 505 pounds, but received "overwhelming backlash" after the show aired, which sent her into a "deep depression." She also became "fearful" of undergoing weightloss surgery as her mental health continued to decline.
"In 2023, I moved to Houston, hoping for a fresh start, but instead, I found myself in an abusive relationship while also dealing with the devastating news that my father had been diagnosed with cancer," she shared.
She eventually moved back to her hometown in Louisiana, but her health unfortunately continued to deteriorate. Pottain had hoped to raise $20,000 through her GoFundMe. As of this writing, she had only collected $1,155.
