Selena Gomez Chose Her Grandfather to Walk Her Down the Aisle: Report
The "Only Murders in the Building" star is said to have made the decision weeks prior to the big day and her grandfather was ecstatic. However, her mother was reportedly heartbroken.
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have officially tied the knot! The newlyweds took to their respective social media platforms to share the first look at their nuptials, which were held in Montecito, California, on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Gomez was a vision in a custom Ralph Lauren gown, while her newly minted husband looked dapper in a classic three-piece tuxedo. The actress chose her maternal grandfather, David Cornett, to walk her down the aisle.
A family source who spoke to TMZ revealed that she chose Cornett because they share a close relationship, and he never had the chance to walk her mother, Mandy Teefey, down the aisle because she had eloped.
"David and his wife Debbie broke down in tears of joy when she asked him. Selena made the decision as soon as they started planning the wedding," a source told Daily Mail. According to the insider, Teefey was heartbroken by the decision.
"Selena's mother and her stepfather Brian were shattered she didn't choose her mother to walk her down the aisle," the insider said. "In a shock move she chose her grandfather David to give her away to Benny."
Despite this, it's been said that Teefey thought it was a "thoughtful gesture." The proud mom even raved about her daughter's big day on Instagram, writing, "It was a fairytale come true and it was beyond heartwarming watching my father walk her down the aisle!!! XO."
