
Trump and Melania’s Quiet Gesture Honoring the Late Queen Elizabeth II
The First Lady of the United States and her husband, President Donald Trump, who are currently on his second state visit to the U.K., subtly paid tribute to the late Queen with two coordinated garments.
The anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's passing was just over a week ago, but President Donald Trump and Melania Trump are still honoring the late monarch. The pair paid tribute as they began their state visit to the U.K. on Wednesday, September 17.

They arrived on Marine One and were greeted by Prince William and Princess Catherine. Trump was dressed in a dark navy suit, paired with a white dress shirt and a patterned burgundy tie, completing the ensemble with polished black dress shoes.

Melania, walking beside him, wore a tailored charcoal-gray suit featuring a structured, double-breasted jacket with a cinched waist and flap pockets, paired with a matching below-the-knee skirt and black pointed-toe stiletto heels.

The standout piece of her outfit was a wide-brimmed plum-colored hat, matching her husband's tie. The garment choices appeared to be a deliberate yet subtle nod to Queen Elizabeth. Purple has long been associated with royalty and power, with the connection tracing back centuries.

After the Queen died on September 8, 2022, numerous landmarks across the globe were lit up in purple in her honor. In New York City, the Empire State Building glowed purple in a special tribute.

Similarly, in London, the Tower Bridge was also illuminated in purple for 11 days until Her Majesty was laid to rest at her funeral on September 19.
