Kristen Bell Marks Dax Shepard’s 21 Years Sober with Heartfelt Tribute
The "Veronica Mars" alum went down memory lane to celebrate her husband's milestone in a meaningful tribute. The longtime comedian is marking 21 years sober.
Kristen Bell is feeling grateful. The Emmy-nominated actress took to Instagram on Friday, September 5, to reflect on the cherished moments her husband Dax Shepard's commitment to sobriety has given them.
The mom of two shared several photos of Shepard embracing their daughters, Delta, 10, and Lincoln, 13. "This is what 21 years of sobriety looks like. Lots of hugging. Hugging everyone and everything," Bell captioned the post.
"Hugging life. Thank you for getting sober, @daxshepard. I am eternally grateful to have you. We all are 💕," she added. Several fans and friends congratulated the actor in the comments, with some sharing their own sobriety milestones.
Shepard also responded to Bell's message, joking, "Well this is a low blow. Even for you. Makin' a guy cry when he can't turn to booze?!?!" The "Hit and Run" star first got sober in 2004, but relapsed 16 years into his sobriety.
He opened up about the relapse in an episode of his podcast, "Armchair Expert," in September 2020. Shepard explained that he abused painkillers following a motorcycle accident and a series of other injuries.
He said he realized he needed to stop when he began lying to the people around him. By the time the episode aired that year, he was already 12 days sober.
