Emma Heming Willis Says Bruce Willis's Brain Is Failing as Illness Progresses
Emma Heming Willis is offering a heartbreaking update on her husband Bruce Willis's condition, revealing that the actor's dementia has reached the point where his brain is failing him.
Bruce Willis's wife, Emma Heming Willis, appeared on "Good Morning America" for a conversation with Diane Sawyer about the actor's ongoing battle with dementia.
Heming Willis shared that her husband's brain is "failing him" and that his ability to communicate continues to fade.
The Willis family has been navigating his health struggles for more than two years, following the "Die Hard" star's diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
"Bruce is still very mobile. Bruce is in really great health overall, you know," Heming Willis told Sawyer in an ABC special that aired on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. "It's just his brain that is failing him. The language is going. We've learned to adapt and we have a way of communicating with him, which is just a different way."
Before his diagnosis, family members noticed troubling changes. His once "warm" personality grew distant, he lost interest in activities he previously enjoyed, and he began skipping family outings.
The shift was sudden and difficult for those close to him, as Willis, once known for his warmth and affection, became withdrawn.
Willis stepped away from acting in 2022, initially after being diagnosed with aphasia. Months later, his family revealed he was battling FTD.
