Usha Vance Holds Erika Kirk’s Hand as They Arrive with Charlie’s Casket
The Second Lady of the United States was a pillar of support for the newly-widowed mother of two. The pair were also accompanied by Vice President J.D. Vance.
Charlie Kirk's wife, Erika, arrived in Phoenix, Arizona, with her husband's casket on Thursday afternoon, September 11. The bereaved widow was accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance and Vice President J.D. Vance on Air Force Two.

A video circulating online shows the trio disembarking the aircraft, with Usha briefly explaining something to Erika — who shared a son and a daughter with Charlie — before taking her hand as they descend the steps. J.D. followed behind.
Although he kept a respectful distance as Usha comforted Erika, J.D. has publicly expressed his sympathies. The veteran politician posted a screenshot of President Trump's statement after Charlie was confirmed dead. "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord," he wrote on X.
Prior to their arrival in Phoenix, J.D. had helped load Charlie's casket onto Air Force Two. Upon landing, the coffin was transferred into a white hearse and transported through the city with a motorcade following behind.
The somber sight marks the first time Erika has been seen in public following the fatal shooting of her husband. Charlie was killed by a single shot to the neck while hosting a student event at Utah Valley College, in what authorities believe to have been a targeted attack.
The FBI initially apprehended two persons of interest, who were later released following interrogation and further investigation. Authorities now say they have another lead, and have released photos of a third person of interest.
