Titled "Live from the Hospital," the segment was taped in a Los Angeles hospital and was released on Tuesday, August 5. Applegate shared that she began feeling unwell while visiting family in Europe.
"I was not feeling good the whole time I was there, but not like the kind of bad where I had missed days. It would just be like up and down. Like, I'd be okay for a couple hours and then I'd be having to go lay down because my stomach was really bad," she explained.

Upon returning to the States, Applegate said she was "really afraid" to go back home, only to end up needing to run to the emergency room in the early hours of the morning. So, she decided to head straight to the hospital. The film star advocated for her treatment and asked to be admitted.
"I want to know why this is happening, and I want it to stop so that I don't have to keep coming here," she said of her condition. "I wanna be admitted. I'm staying here because I want answers. I want every test that you can possibly think of or ones that you haven't even thought of, and I want them done."

The following day, Applegate said she woke up with excruciating pain on her right side that was radiating from her back to the front. "They ordered me an emergency CT at 2 o'clock in the morning," she shared.
She continued, "I went in and got a CT, and I had kidney infections. And so I'm here because of this kidney infection and I have to have intravenous antibiotics right now." Applegate has since been discharged from the hospital.
"I'm home and have been treated for the kidney infection," she said in a statement to PEOPLE via her representative, on Tuesday afternoon. "As far as my ongoing stomach thing, it's a work in progress. I was there 7 days."
