King Charles Confirms North America Trip Plans Amid Reports of Tension with Prince Harry
The King will make the official trip to North America with Queen Camilla, to deliver his first speech from the throne at Canada's opening of parliament.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla will visit Canada from May 26 to 27, 2025, for an official trip that includes a historic address to Parliament. The King's speech from the throne will mark the first time he performs this role in Canada.
The visit will be on the same continent as Prince Harry, who lives in California with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children. However, the King and Queen will remain in Canada, with no confirmed plans to travel to the United States or meet with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The royal itinerary begins with a community event, where the monarchs are expected to interact with Canadians from several organizations across the country. They will then meet with Governor General Mary Simon and Prime Minister Mark Carney. Following this, Queen Camilla will be sworn in as a member of the Canadian Privy Council.

After the ceremony, the royal couple will plant a commemorative tree at Rideau Hall, the official residence of the governor general. In a symbolic gesture, the new tree will be placed near the sugar maple that they planted during a previous visit in 2017.

The day will conclude with a reception honoring Canada's 10 lieutenant governors and the three territorial commissioners, reinforcing the ceremonial and federal nature of the visit.
On the second day, King Charles will attend the state opening of Parliament, where he will deliver a speech from the throne to the Senate chamber. The moment will be only the second time a royal has opened Parliament and the third time a sovereign has delivered the speech.
Before departing Canada, the King and Queen will lay a wreath and flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National War Memorial, a tribute to Canada's fallen.
Their trip comes amid renewed attention on the King's relationship with Prince Harry. In an exclusive interview with BBC, Prince Harry revealed that the father and son duo are currently estranged. He said he would "love a reconciliation" with his family, but that his father is currently not speaking to him.
