Hoda Kotb in the Running to Replace Kelly Clarkson amid Possible Exit Rumors
Rumors surrounding the "Where Have You Been" singer leaving her eponymous NBC show have begun swirling as her contract ends next year. Meanwhile, a source says the former "Today" anchor is on a "list" of potential replacement candidates.
After nearly two decades of being a staple on NBC's "Today," Hoda Kotb announced her departure from the show in September 2024, and officially stepped down in January of this year.

Clarkson joined the network in 2019, when "The Kelly Clarkson Show" first aired. The talk show became popular and well-loved for its heartwarming stories, celebrity appearances, live musical performances, games, and surprises.
However, as Clarkson's contract nears its end, NBC executives are reportedly looking for the next candidate—and Kotb is high up on the list.

"There's a long list of names and Hoda is part of that list. NBC never wanted Hoda to leave. The question is would Hoda want to do it?" an NBC insider told the New York Post.
The NBC higher-ups are reportedly looking for someone who is recognizable and has already amassed a large following. "Hoda ticks a lot of boxes. She's an Egyptian, older Kelly Clarkson," the insider said.

They also noted that, as Clarkson prepares for the release of her ninth studio album and a Las Vegas residency from July 4 to August 16, the success of her album might determine whether she keeps the show.
"But she has a lot going on and the timing may be right for the next chapter," the source said. Additionally, another source told the publication that former "Today" weekend anchor and author Maria Shriver is also being considered. At this point, only time will tell.
