On April 9, 2025, police responded to reports of gunfire near Texas Southern University. The shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Rosewood Street near Ennis.

Police found an unresponsive male in the driver’s seat of a gray sedan. Paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene, and he was later identified as 18-year-old Gregory Warren.

Following the incident, witnesses told police they saw two suspects flee the area after the gunfire. They were described as Black males between the ages of 20 and 25, both wearing dreadlocks. Additionally, one was said to have a thinner build, while the other was heavier.

Gregory’s mother, Tina, spoke with Fox26, expressing her grief and remembering her son. "I'm crushed that my son got taken from me at 18. He was humble, and he was a lover — he always used to give me hugs. I'm crushed. I just want justice for my son," she said.

Her family urged anyone with information to come forward, as her husband, Reggie Davis, added, "If you know about it, talk about it. Put it on social media. Do something."

Tina had flown from Alaska to Houston to retrieve Gregory’s body. Tragically, a week after his passing, she died of sepsis and stress-induced heart failure.

Her family started a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses. They hoped to raise $10,000, and as of this writing, they’ve collected $4,665.
