
College Football Standout Todric McGee Dies at 21 — Details
Missouri State University is mourning the tragic passing of promising young athlete Todric McGee. Authorities believe it was an accidental death and are actively investigating.
Police responded to a wellness check on Friday, April 18, where they discovered McGee at his residence with what they believed to be an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.
McGee was subsequently transported to a local Springfield hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He died early Saturday morning at 21 years old.
McGee played starting safety for the Missouri State Bears in 2023 and 2024, earning all-conference honors in 2023. He was preparing to enter his fifth season with the team and was majoring in Exercise and Movement Science.
Missouri State Director of Athletics Patrick Ransdell shared a heartfelt statement on MSU Athletics Communications in light of McGee's passing.
Expressing condolences on behalf of the university and the athletics department to McGee's family, teammates, and loved ones, Ransdell said his death has "has shaken our football program to the core."
Head coach Ryan Beard also called for everyone to respect the privacy of McGee's family and the MoState football team as they all mourn his loss, and to join in praying for his family and loved ones.
